#B9095 - Dangly 14K Victorian Earrings w/Tassels

A good pair of true, 14K Victorian earrings – getting harder and harder to find! Prettily repoussed and engraved in a double shell design, they measure a noteworthy 2 Ό” long from the top of the shell. Post backs for pierced ears (probably a conversion from what would have originally been wires, very professionally done), they weigh 6.9 grams (4.4 dwt) and are in excellent condition, with no wear to note. Tons of movement with the tassels, very flirty on! Certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.

#MM131 – Early 14K Enamel Pansy Locket

An early locket – probably Civil War era, made from unmarked but tested 14K rose , decorated with big bobbles surrounding an enameled pansy. The pansy is done in blue and white enamel and set to the center with a tiny garnet cabochon. It is framed with engraving and black tracery enamel. The locket measures 1 5/8” (without the bale) by 1 1/8”. The back is lightly engraved in a cool design (it was hard to get a good picture of) and it opens to reveal the original glass on both sides covering a bit of purple fabric. The 24” mesh chain is gold fill and a later addition, but came with it, so I am leaving it as found. In lovely condition, the only fault I can really point out is a very slight ripple to the gold in the back. The enamel is intact Hallmarked on the bale with a letter “A” - the locket on it’s own weighs 4.6 grams, with the chain the weight is 13.6. Rich, original patina – lovely for a pansy collector! Certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.

#MM134 – Carved Ivory or Bone Slip Locket

Another locket dating from the Civil War era, this pretty one was sold to me as ivory, but I think it is probably finely carved bone. Formed as a sheaves of wheat - a Victorian era symbol for resurrection or the "divine harvest" - often represents the aged, so this is quite probably a mourning locket. There are also two pretty carved flowers as added decoration. It is a good example, measuring 1 7/8" x 1 ½". The top slides open on a hinge to reveal an oval glass with gold braid trim for a picture or other memento. The carving is well done and it is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or other wear to note, just a bit of natural discoloration to the material - hard to find these old carved pieces without some damage! Certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.

#MM135 – 15K Rhodalite Garnet Brooch and Earring Set

A lovely Victorian set of 15K garnet drop earrings and matching locket pendant. The earrings are the stars of the set, measuring 1 Ύ” x 11/16” wide. Constructed in two oval hollowware sections held by a twist of gold, they are ornately hand chased to the front and set with genuine rhodalite garnets and a smaller paste or rock crystal stone. The backs are plain, highly polished gold. Marked and tested 15 CT, they are for pierced ears. The little locket is sweet, repeating the design and measuring Ύ” (without the 1/8” bale) x 5/8”. It has a crystal covered back covering an empty compartment. The earrings have been converted from the original wires to plain posts, it was professionally done and they look great on. The locket is missing a bit of the gold bezel holding the crystal but it is secure. There are no dings, dents or other faults to note. #MM102 - Vulcanite Mourning Locket and Jet Chain

A very fine example of Victorian mourning jewelry - a Vulcanite oval locket, with a dear mourning scene in high relief on the front. The scene depicts a cross beneath the spreading branches of a tree surrounded by foliage. The hinged locket opens to reveal a decorative patterned interior with compartments for photos, hair art or other mementos. There is no glass and I am not sure if there ever was. The locket has a French jet bead chain with round, flower shaped polished beads and 4 sided oval matte beads. The locket measures 1 3/8” long without the Vulcanite ring bale x 1 1/8” wide. The chain measures 27 inches long and retains the original fob hook closure. In very good condition, though would benefit from a spot of cleaning - overall a quite wearable piece! #VCB - MM153 Exquisite Master Carved Ivory Cameo Bracelet

Wow, wow, wow – that is really all you can say about this amazing bracelet! The centerpiece is a magnificently carved work of art, depicting the full bust of a baby, wearing a carved sash and resting it’s head on a pillow of intricately carved roses. The infant is either asleep, or this is a mourning piece – either way I believe this was a custom design and the angelic baby depicted was the beloved child of someone with enough money to commission the carver to render this likeness.

The artist was obviously a master – the carving is done from a single piece of ivory and measures 2 ½” tall x 1 ½” wide x 13/16” deep. The rest of the bracelet is made from curved sections of ivory, restrung on newer elastic. The fit is flexible, the inside diameter unstretched is 2 Ό”. The construction is such that the centerpiece could also easily be removed and strung on a ribbon choker, too, for a completely different look. c. 1870, this is one of the finest examples of antique ivory carving I have seen and I have gotten pretty jaded. Unfortunately it is unsigned so any attribution would only be speculation. In fantastic condition, with NO chips, breaks or other damage to note, sure to be the centerpiece of any fine Victoriana collection!

#VCP - B9101 Good Large Victorian Satsuma Brooch

A Victorian era Satsuma brooch, depicting a snow covered Mount Fuji in the background with a foreground of soft orange, blue and white flowers and gold accents. A little history - Satsuma porcelain has been traced to 17th century Japan, taking its name from the southern province of Kyushu Island. The Shimzu family introduced the world to their beautiful earthenware pieces at the Paris International Exposition of 1867. Attracted by the fine craftsmanship and gorgeous designs, Satsuma porcelain was an instant hit. This brooch dates to around that period and is a good example of why the world was enchanted with the technique. It measures 1 7/8” around and is framed and backed in gilded brass with a good “c” clasp and hinge. In excellent condition, with no wear to note, it is beautiful for both wear and display.

The bracelet measures 2 ½” x 2” and is 11/16 wide. Oval in shape, the inside measures 2 3/16” across and should comfortably fit up to a 6 3e/4” wrist. There is a bit of bending to the bars at the back (not visible from the front) and a bit of gilt wear, but this is still quite wearable as is. Circa 1900, certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.
