#VFP-B2003 Incredible Ruby, Diamond & Demantoid Garnet Arrow Pin
The camera loved the colors of this amazing piece and so do I. A fabulous silver topped, 14K gold, late Victorian brooch has it all! Start with the arrow crafted of 58 approximately 2mm rare, natural demantoid garnets in a rich, glowing green totaling 1.75 carats. This is topped with a natural, prong set 5.4 x 6.8 red ruby which centers the ruby and diamond crescent. The crescent has 7 natural, red rubies ranging from 4.7 x 5.9 to 3 x 4mm, separated by pairs of European, bright white diamonds, weighing .02 to .15 points, for an estimated .90 total gem weight. All the stones are mounted open backed, allowing for the maximum infusion of light and it is fitted with a good t-bar hinge, strong pinback and added safety clasp. The brooch measures 3 long x 1 wide from the top to bottom of the crescent and weighs 7.8dwt (12.1 grams).
Originally thought to be emeralds, demantoid garnets were discovered in the Bobrovka area of Russia in 1892 and soon became a favorite gem of the Russian royals as well as sought after by connoisseurs worldwide due to its beauty and rarity. The term demantoid means diamond-like, because it has a very high luster, and color dispersion higher than diamond. A diagnostic characteristic of demantoid is the inclusion of radiating fibers in a pattern described as a horse-tail. This brooch is a wonderful example of the use of demantoids in period jewelry and is in excellent condition, with no wear or other flaws to note - truly fit for royalty! Circa 1900, certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.
