#VFN-MM134 Child & Child Enamel Silver and Gold Memorial Locket

A delightful, large silver memorial pendant, bearing the flower hallmark of the notable London firm of Child and Child (1880-1916) designed as an enameled oval with black enamel laurel wreath border and finished with a dark purple enamel bow of gold. The center oval is also black enamel with the entwined purple enamel initials “JS”. The reverse of the pendant is enameled in black with a purple wreath which covers a concealed compartment, on opening it reveals a beautiful arrangement of hair with seed pearls, beneath glass.

It measures 2” x 1 3/8” and weighs 15 dwt (23.3 grams). Hallmarked twice with the Child & Child mark, the condition is very, very good. I wish we knew who “JS” was, it would have obviously been someone of wealth, as this would have been specifically commissioned and is beautifully wrought.. The enamel is not perfect, there are a few small marks/scratches and nics to the surface of the enamel, but most of these require a glass to be seen. The hair arrangement and the enamel on the reverse is in excellent condition. It was hard to photograph, any white marks are reflections from the lighting. Circa 1880, certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.

#BJ3589 - Unusual Victorian 18K Stone? Cameo

A quite unusual cameo brooch, depicting I think Aphrodite, Zeus as an eagle and Cupid – three generations of Greek gods. Framed in 18K yellow gold with an elaborate Etruscan Revival frame, we have been unable to definitively identify the cameo material – it is either hard stone or a very unusual shell. It is translucent, and the white showing on the back is part of the natural material. The brooch measures 1 5/16” x 1 1/16” and it weighs 9.3 grams. In excellent condition, with absolutely no wear, all the bobbles and wirework are intact and there are no chips or cracks to the cameo. Original “c” clasp, unmarked, but tested and guaranteed 18K. Certified to be as described and to be authentic antique jewelry.
